The Pebbles Resort is a modern 3-star hotel in St Paul’s Bay. It stands a few streets back from the Buġibba seafront. It is best suited to couples and families travelling out of season. Its staff, cleanliness and heated indoor pool win unanimous praise. On the downside, the area lacks charm and the hotel becomes an adults-only party venue in high summer.

About Pebbles Resort

The Pebbles Resort is at 66 Triq il-Kaħli, in St Paul’s Bay, in the north of Malta. The Malta Tourism Authority rates it 3 stars, even though it presents itself as a 4-star hotel. The Buġibba seafront is about five minutes’ walk away. The lido-style beach at Buġibba Perched Beach is just over a kilometre away.

The rooms are spread over five floors around the pool courtyard. There are doubles, triples, family rooms and a two-bedroom apartment. All have a balcony or terrace, facing either the pool or the town. The decor is modern, with air conditioning, a fridge, a safe and tea and coffee facilities. The bathrooms have a walk-in shower or a bath.

The Flavours restaurant serves the breakfast and dinner buffets, with a half-board option. The Anchor Pub offers pub food and shows the big football matches. A lobby bar completes the picture, with cocktails and a happy hour.

For relaxation, the hotel offers an outdoor pool, open in season, and an indoor pool heated all year round. A jacuzzi, a gym and a games room are also on hand. Massages are available on request, but there is no spa or sauna. Be aware: in high season, the building takes on the name Bora Bora Ibiza Malta Resort. This party concept, with music by the pool, is for adults only.

Pebbles Resort reviews

Summary of 564 recent reviews

Recent reviews praise the staff above all. Reception, waiters, bar staff and housekeepers receive the same praise. Many guests mention employees by their first name. Cleanliness comes a close second: rooms and public areas are judged spotless, with daily housekeeping. The rooms are also liked for their size, modern decor and large beds. The lobby bar and the pub, with their happy hour, are often mentioned.

The dinner buffet scores well for its variety and a menu that changes every evening. Breakfast divides opinion more. Many find it repetitive and very British. At peak times, the dining room feels too small and there is sometimes a wait. The heated indoor pool, open late, is a real plus in winter. The nearby bus stops make it easy to explore the island. Many guests, in fact, come back year after year.

The criticism focuses first on noise. Doors slam, corridors echo and street-facing rooms hear the traffic. Bathrooms are often small, with a tiny washbasin and sometimes no shower screen. The indoor pool shows signs of wear, and the outdoor pool stays cool. The area is felt to be uninviting in the evening. Finally, there is no private parking. Several guests also feel the overall standard is closer to 3 stars. In June and September, some had to put up with loud music and noisy groups.

The Pebbles Resort is best suited to couples and families, from October to June. They will find a clean, well-run hotel, with excellent value for money on half board. Those looking for peace and quiet should check which brand applies on their dates. In high summer, the hotel becomes an adults-only party venue.

  • Noise in the corridors and on the street side slamming doors, early-morning trolleys and traffic disturb light sleepers.
