About Hyatt Regency Malta

The Hyatt Regency Malta opened in October 2020. It is Malta’s first Hyatt hotel, rated 5 stars. It rises in the heart of St Julian’s, above St George’s Bay. Its modern tower overlooks Pjazza Santa Rita, a pedestrian square. Here stand a restored chapel and the former Augustinian priory.

The hotel has 151 rooms, including 12 suites. Standard rooms measure 32 m², with a walk-in shower and a desk area. They have a balcony or large picture windows. The upper floors face the sea, the others the square or the town. Club rooms and suites give access to the Regency Club. This lounge serves an aperitif with canapés from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Dining comes under the Seed name. The main restaurant serves seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, facing the square. The breakfast buffet is served there, indoors or on the terrace. On the roof, a bar and restaurant surrounds the pool, renovated in 2026. A café-lounge in the lobby rounds off the offer.

For relaxation, the rooftop pool is seasonal and closes in winter. The spa has a heated indoor pool, a sauna and three treatment rooms. A gym completes the facilities. Families can book two-room units, but the hotel has no kids’ club. Pets are welcome, possibly for a supplement.

Hyatt Regency Malta reviews

Summary of 481 recent reviews

Recent reviews praise the staff above all. They are mentioned in almost two thirds of detailed comments. Reception, breakfast, housekeeping and the rooftop team receive the same praise. Guests also note small touches, such as an upgrade or a birthday surprise. The cleanliness and comfort of the rooms come up almost as often. The beds and large showers are very popular.

The location is liked for its proximity to the beach, restaurants and shops. Many are surprised by how quiet it is inside despite the nightlife close by. The breakfast buffet is seen as generous and varied, especially on the terrace overlooking the square. Several guests, however, find it the same from one day to the next. The Regency Club and its evening aperitif win over those who have access.

The most frequently cited drawback is the neighbourhood. The hotel stands next to Paceville, the nightclub district, which is lively and noisy at night. Some lower street-side rooms hear the music until dawn. The rooftop pool is felt to be small and quickly crowded in summer. It also closes in winter, which some only discover on arrival. Finally, the sea view remains partial on the lower floors. Extras, such as breakfast when not included, seem expensive.

The Hyatt Regency Malta is best suited to couples and travellers looking for a recent, well-kept hotel. It is a handy base for nights out and for walking to the beach. Families will find two-room units, but no entertainment. Those dreaming of a peaceful seaside setting will prefer another area.
