About EF Malta
EF Malta (EF International Language Campus) is an English language school located in St Julian’s, at St George’s Bay, in the heart of the island’s liveliest area. The Maltese campus opened in 2002 and belongs to the global EF Education First network, one of the world’s largest language-travel organisations. It welcomes students from every continent all year round and offers a very wide range of courses: General English (26 lessons), Intensive (32 lessons), Summer (20 lessons), exam preparation (Cambridge, IELTS, TOEFL, TOEIC), Business English and study-and-work programmes with an internship, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1). Courses start every Monday. EF works differently from other Maltese schools, though: its lessons last 40 minutes (versus 45 elsewhere) and some of them are project sessions, special lessons or lectures counted as lessons. This adds variety, but a “26 lessons” course at EF is not 26 teacher-led classes as elsewhere, which makes price and hours comparisons tricky. Young learners aged 7 to 16 are welcomed in summer at a dedicated junior camp in St Paul’s Bay, with 24/7 supervision.
The campus has 29 modern classrooms fitted with multimedia technology and, above all, a private EF Beach Club by the water, with sun loungers and water sports: it is the campus’s signature. Adult courses run in groups of 15 students maximum. Level testing is done through the EF SET, and the school issues an EF course certificate. Three accommodation options are available: host family (EF Homestay, breakfast and dinner), a house shared between students (EF Homeshare) and a student residence (EF Residence).
EF Malta accreditations
EF Malta is an official English language teaching institution: it holds the ELT Council licence, issued by the Maltese Ministry of Education, which licenses and monitors every English school in the archipelago.
The campus is also EAQUALS-accredited (Evaluation and Accreditation of Quality Language Services), a mark of teaching quality, and prepares for the official Cambridge English exams as well as IELTS, TOEFL and TOEIC. EF also relies on its own tools, such as the EF SET placement test and its digital learning platform.

Reviews of EF Malta
EF Malta is one of the best-rated English schools on the island, driven above all by its EF Beach Club and an especially rich programme of activities and excursions, along with a very international atmosphere where you meet students from all over the world. The young, energetic activity leaders are regularly praised. It is a good English school, but also by far the most expensive in Malta: outside promotions, expect 30 to 40% more than any other school, without more teacher-led class time. The flip side of its size is an industrial way of operating: prices are high for what is delivered, organisation and customer service can lack responsiveness, and the experience booked may drift from the brochure. Accommodation, host families in particular, is the most sensitive point: uneven meal quality and portions, and lodgings sometimes shared between several students.
Pros

- Very rich programme of activities and excursions
- International atmosphere, students from all over the world (the most cited)
- Young, energetic activity leaders, well liked
- Global EF network, wide choice of courses and exam preparation
- Adult classes capped at 15 students
Cons
- The most expensive school in Malta (30 to 40% more)
- Uneven host-family accommodation (meals, sometimes shared lodgings)
- Industrial operation: organisation and customer service not very responsive
- The experience booked sometimes drifts from the brochure
