The ACE English Malta school in St Julian’s

ACE English Malta opened in 2013 on the fourth floor of the Bay Street Complex, at St George’s Bay. The school sees itself as a “boutique” school: 25 bright classrooms, all fitted with interactive whiteboards, a large lounge area, an internet café, a mini library and a terrace where students meet between lessons.

ACE holds the ELT Council licence, issued by the Maltese Ministry for Education, and EAQUALS accreditation, which regularly checks the quality of teaching and services. The school also takes part in the European Erasmus+ programme.

The St George’s Bay neighbourhood

The school is in St Julian’s, the liveliest district on the island. St George’s Bay beach is at the foot of the Bay Street Complex, Paceville and its nightlife are a stone’s throw away, and the seafront promenade leads to Spinola Bay and then Sliema.

Buses leave from the bay for Valletta and for the airport. Shops, restaurants and late-opening supermarkets are a few minutes’ walk away, which makes everyday life easier when you live in an apartment.

The English courses

Lessons last 45 minutes and take place in the morning or the afternoon. The core course, ACE Group 20, has 20 General English lessons per week, or 15 hours. ACE Group 30 adds 10 group conversation lessons.

What sets ACE apart: classes are separated between ages 16-29 and 30 and over, from level A1+ to level B2. Levels A1 and C1 are mixed-age. Courses start every Monday, in any week of the year, and a morning or afternoon timetable can be booked as an option.

Both courses can be booked from one week to a year. The weekly price drops in steps at 8, 12, 20 and 36 weeks, and the high-season course supplement no longer applies from 8 weeks.

ACE runs a programme of activities and outings almost every day, designed to help you meet other students and practise your English outside the classroom. Taking part is optional: some activities are free, others are paid, and you sign up at the school during the week.

The programme mixes cultural visits and leisure: Valletta and Mdina, a day trip to Gozo and its citadel, the fishing village of Marsaxlokk, the Blue Lagoon on Comino, boat trips and football matches between students. St George’s Bay beach is right at the foot of the school, which also leaves room for late afternoons by the water.

Frequently asked questions

What is the minimum age to go with ACE?

From 16. Students aged 16-17 join the adult courses with their parents’ consent and must stay with a host family: ACE apartments are reserved for those aged 18 and over.

Are classes really separated by age?

Yes, from level A1+ to level B2: one group for ages 16-29, another for ages 30 and over, at the same price. Only levels A1 and C1 bring all ages together.

Which days do I arrive, and when do lessons start?

Arrival and departure are on Saturday or Sunday, in an apartment as well as with a host family. Lessons start on Monday; if that Monday is a public holiday, they begin on the next working day.

What does the calculated price include?

The course, your chosen accommodation, the registration fee, the course book for General English, the accommodation booking fee, airport transfers in both directions and the eco-tax. With a host family, meals depend on the option: breakfast and dinner on half board, breakfast only otherwise. You pay for flights yourself and, in an apartment, for air conditioning (paid on site) as well as a €100 security deposit in cash, refunded on departure.

Are longer stays cheaper?

Yes. The course price drops at 8, 12, 20 and 36 weeks, and the high-season course supplement no longer applies from 8 weeks. From 24 weeks in a shared room in an ACE apartment, no seasonal supplement applies to the accommodation. The calculator also automatically applies the next tier up when it works out cheaper overall.

Is ACE an officially licensed English school in Malta?

ACE is one of the 31 officially licensed English schools in Malta in 2026. It holds an ELT Council licence, issued by the Maltese Ministry of Education.

What is the eco tax in Malta?

The eco tax (“eco contribution”) is a tourist tax levied by the Maltese state and collected by every licensed accommodation provider in Malta and Gozo. Since 1 July 2026 it stands at 1.50 € per night per person aged 18 or over, capped at 22.50 € per stay: beyond the 15th night it is no longer charged. It is collected by your accommodation and appears on its own line in the price breakdown of our calculator.

What is the high season supplement on a language stay?

At certain times of year the school raises its price. Here are the periods concerned and the rule applied:

  • Mid-season, accommodation — from 27 March to 5 June 2027 and from 19 September to 13 November 2027 : supplement of €25.00 to €50.00/week depending on accommodation and duration
  • High season, courses — from 6 June to 18 September 2027 : supplement of €50.00/week
  • High season, accommodation — from 6 June to 18 September 2027 : supplement of €55.00 to €110.00/week depending on accommodation and duration

The season is assessed week by week, based on the Monday of each week: only the weeks falling within a period above carry the supplement, not the whole stay.
