Maltalingua (Maltalingua School of English) is an English language school located in St Julian’s, on Birkirkara Hill, just above Balluta Bay. This boutique, family-run British-owned school was founded in 2012 and welcomes students from all over the world year round. It offers a wide range of courses: General English (20 lessons), Intensive (30 or 40 lessons), Business English in mini groups, exam preparation (IELTS and Cambridge), private lessons, plus kids (8-12), teens (13-17) and family programmes in summer, at Easter and in autumn, as well as Erasmus+ courses. Courses start every Monday, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1).
The school occupies a historic building a stone’s throw from the sea and has 14 modern, air-conditioned classrooms fitted with interactive whiteboards, plus a computer room and a library. Adult courses run in small groups of 12 students maximum (8 to 10 on average), junior courses up to 15. The reservations mainly concern the student apartments, of uneven cleanliness and upkeep, and the organisation of the junior and teen programmes, which has room for improvement. The flip side of its size: with few classrooms, the school cannot always offer a fine-grained split of language levels, and occasional timetable changes do occur.
