A supervised camp at Salina Bay

ESE (European School of English) is a leading school in Malta. Opened in 1996, it has close to 30 years of experience in English teaching and in looking after students of every age, with 60 classrooms.

The school holds an ELT Council licence, making it an official school recognised by the Maltese government. It also holds numerous international certifications, including five major ones: ELT Council, IALC, Eaquals, Alto and Feltom — a guarantee of the quality of both the teaching and the supervision.

The camp itself is held at Salina Bay, on the north-east coast, in a setting far calmer than St Julian’s.

The English courses

20 lessons per week, in the morning, in ability groups formed after a test on arrival. The teachers are ESE’s own, from a school that is ELT Council licensed and EAQUALS accredited.

The format is designed to unlock spoken English: plenty of group activities, very little front-of-class grammar. A certificate is awarded at the end of the stay. Afternoons alternate between sport, beach and sightseeing.

The activity programme

The programme is comprehensive and included in the price, with a higher supervision ratio than the young adults stays. Beach afternoons, sport and tournaments are all part of the stay, as are the themed evenings and pool parties held at the resort under constant supervision.

As for outings: a day trip to Gozo among cliffs and coves — one of the most memorable of the stay — plus age-appropriate guided visits, including Valletta, Mdina and the fortifications.

An unaccompanied-minor escort service is available as an option at the airport, for flights where the airline requires it.

Frequently asked questions

Can my child travel alone?

Yes. An unaccompanied-minor escort service is available as an option, and someone meets every student at Malta airport whatever the package.

What are the departure dates?

The camp only runs in spring, summer and autumn. The calculator will refuse any date outside those periods: that’s not a bug — the stay simply doesn’t exist on those dates.

Are all meals included?

Yes, full board in both accommodation options. That’s the difference from the young adults and adult stays, which are half board.

How closely are the teenagers supervised?

Group leaders are present at all times, including during activities and evening events. The camp is deliberately located well away from the nightlife districts.

What does a typical day look like?

English lessons in the morning, supervised activities and excursions in the afternoon (beach, sport, sightseeing), and organised evening events at the camp. The days are fully structured: the teenagers are never left to their own devices.

What exactly does the stay include?

It’s an all-inclusive package from the moment they land in Malta: airport welcome and transfers handled by the supervising team on arrival and departure, full-board accommodation (with adjustments for dietary requirements flagged at enrolment), all supervised activities and their transport, course materials and the end-of-stay certificate. Arrivals are on Saturday or Sunday, on a rolling 7-day system. Only flights and pocket money remain at the parents’ expense.

Is ESE an officially licensed English school in Malta?

ESE is one of the 32 officially licensed English schools in Malta in 2026. It holds an ELT Council licence, issued by the Maltese Ministry of Education.
