The EC school in St Julian’s

EC Malta is one of the island’s largest and best-known English schools. It belongs to the international group of the same name, whose head office is also in Malta and which operates in around ten countries. Founded in 1991, the Maltese school has more than 30 years of experience teaching English.

The school sits in the heart of St Julian’s, the most dynamic spot in Malta, close to the Mercury Tower and the famous Paceville district. It has 44 classrooms dedicated to English teaching, allowing it to welcome up to 498 students at a time and to run every level from beginner (A1) to very advanced (C1). The journey from the airport takes about thirty minutes.

The school holds an ELT Council licence, making it an official institution recognised by the Maltese government. It is also an active member of FELTOM, Malta’s national association of English schools.

The English courses

General English, Intensive English, Business English and exam preparation, as in most of Malta’s language schools. Levels run from A1 to C2, with a placement test on arrival.

Frequently asked questions

How is my English level assessed?

A placement test is taken on arrival (or online before departure) and you are assigned to the matching group, from beginner A1 to very advanced C1. Your end-of-course certificate states the level you have reached.

What exactly does the stay include?

The English course, the accommodation (utilities, water, electricity and Wi-Fi included), the airport transfer on arrival and the placement test. In a host family, breakfast and dinner are provided; in a shared apartment, a fully equipped kitchen is at your disposal. Flights, lunch and personal expenses remain at your expense — the line-by-line breakdown appears in the calculator above.

Is EC an officially licensed English school in Malta?

EC is one of the 32 officially licensed English schools in Malta in 2026. It holds an ELT Council licence, issued by the Maltese Ministry of Education.

What is the eco tax in Malta?

The eco tax (“eco contribution”) is a tourist tax levied by the Maltese state and collected by every licensed accommodation provider in Malta and Gozo. Since 1 July 2026 it stands at 1.50 € per night per person aged 18 or over, capped at 22.50 € per stay: beyond the 15th night it is no longer charged. It is collected by your accommodation and appears on its own line in the price breakdown of our calculator.

What is the high season supplement on a language stay?

At certain times of year the school raises its price. Here are the periods concerned and the rule applied:

  • Haute saison cours — from 29 June to 28 August 2026 : supplement of €25.00/week
  • Haute saison hébergement — from 29 June to 27 September 2026 : supplement of €65.00 to €185.00/week depending on accommodation and duration

The season is assessed week by week, based on the Monday of each week: only the weeks falling within a period above carry the supplement, not the whole stay.
