Book this stayInstitute of English Language Studies (IELS Malta) is one of the largest and best-known schools in Malta. Opened in 1985, it has more than 40 years of experience teaching English. It has 45 classrooms, allowing it to welcome up to 700 students at a time and to run every level from beginner (A1) to very advanced (C1).
The school is ideally located in the heart of Sliema, close to the shopping streets and a few hundred metres from the ferries to Valletta. It holds an ELT Council licence, making it an institution officially recognised by the Maltese government, and it is a member of FELTOM.
Sliema is the residential and shopping district of the east coast, calmer than St Julian’s but just as well connected. The seafront promenade runs for several kilometres, past coves fitted out for swimming.
The ferry to Valletta leaves every half hour and crosses in ten minutes. The island’s two main shopping centres are right there, and the journey from the airport takes about twenty minutes.
The package combines General English at 20 lessons per week or Intensive English at 30 lessons with your accommodation. Outside the package, IELS also offers mini-groups of 10 students, Business English and exam preparation.
One genuinely useful extra: the “morning lessons guaranteed” option, which saves you from ending up in afternoon classes in high season. Students aged 30 and over can ask for a dedicated group.
Your choice of accommodation is what moves the price most: the calculator above recalculates the total every time you change it.

The host families selected by IELS accommodate a limited number of students and are chosen according to strict criteria of comfort, hospitality and compliance. Allocations take into account the student’s age, preferences and needs.
The package includes half board (breakfast + dinner), laundry once per week and all utilities (water, electricity, heating).
Families are located within a radius of up to 45 minutes by bus from the school, depending on the period. This is the most economical accommodation option offered by IELS.
IELS organises excursions and outings every week: Valletta, Mdina, a day trip to Gozo, the coves of the island’s north. They are optional and booked on site, separately from the price of the stay.
The campus brings lessons, accommodation and social life together in one place, which makes meeting people easy when you arrive on your own. Parties, sport and games punctuate the weeks, and a welcome desk open all week helps you organise outings, change courses or sort out any accommodation issue.

It bundles the course, the accommodation, registration fees, course materials and both airport transfers into a single price. Only the Maltese eco tax is added, capped at 5 €.
Yes. Days Inn is part of the campus: you walk down from your room straight into class. It’s the only accommodation of its kind in our catalogue.
Lessons run in the morning; the afternoon is split between the school’s activities and free time to explore the island. Evenings are for meeting up with the other students, in Sliema or in St Julian’s just across the bay.
The course, the accommodation (water, electricity and Wi-Fi included), the airport transfer on arrival and departure, your first course book and the registration fees. In a host family, half board is provided; in the residence or an apartment, a kitchen is at your disposal. The course book is replaced each time you move up a level — the exact amount appears on the “course book” line of the calculator’s breakdown. Flights remain at your expense.
Two weeks, both for the course + accommodation package and for course-only bookings. Below that, the school does not open enrolment.
The eco tax (“eco contribution”) is a tourist tax levied by the Maltese state and collected by every licensed accommodation provider in Malta and Gozo. Since 1 July 2026 it stands at 1.50 € per night per person aged 18 or over, capped at 22.50 € per stay: beyond the 15th night it is no longer charged. It is collected by your accommodation and appears on its own line in the price breakdown of our calculator.
At certain times of year the school raises its price. Here are the periods concerned and the rule applied:
The season is assessed week by week, based on the Monday of each week: only the weeks falling within a period above carry the supplement, not the whole stay.
