The Institute of English Language Studies (IELS Malta) is one of the largest and most renowned schools in Malta. Founded in 1985, it benefits from over 40 years of experience in teaching English. It has 45 classrooms, allowing it to welcome up to 540 students simultaneously and to offer all levels, from beginner (A1) to very advanced (C1).
The school is ideally located in the heart of Sliema, close to shopping areas and just a few hundred meters from the ferries connecting to Valletta. It holds the ELT Council license, making it an institution officially recognized by the Maltese government.

Language courses Malta for adults include a weekly activity program renewed every week. These activities are entirely optional: everyone is free to participate according to their wishes. Some are free, while most are paid (between €10 and €30). They can be booked directly at the activities office during your stay.
The program includes integration activities as well as cultural or tourist outings. You will be able to discover Malta’s must-see sites such as Valletta, Mdina, the Blue Grotto, the Blue Lagoon, as well as more local experiences such as the Marsaxlokk market or the Three Cities.
The English course Malta offer in Sliema includes transfers from the Malta airport to the accommodation, the accommodation itself as well as the English courses. Housing-related costs (electricity, water, Wi-Fi) are included in the price.
Meals are included only with host families (half-board). For other types of accommodation, facilities are available to cook freely.
The first course book is provided upon registration. However, it must be renewed at each level change, at a cost of approximately €35 every eight weeks.
Flights to Malta are not included; booking them is the student’s responsibility. Transfers are organized based on the flight plan communicated at registration. Food and daily living expenses remain the responsibility of the student, except with host families where breakfast and dinner are provided.
The price of adult English courses follows a decreasing pricing scale depending on the number of weeks: the longer the stay, the more advantageous the weekly rate becomes. The cost also varies according to three elements: the period of the stay, the type of accommodation and the course format.
During the high season (from June to September), a supplement applies to all booked weeks, regardless of the accommodation chosen. To benefit from the best rates, it is recommended to plan your stay in the low season, from early September to the end of May.
All payments must be made directly to the school. Following registration, a deposit of €200 must be paid to the institution. The balance must be paid at least 14 days before arrival in Malta. All the school’s bank details will be included in the documents sent after registration.

Four accommodation options are available for adults: the Day’s Inn (room or studio), the Onsite residence, host families and Tigne Suites apartments. Each option offers shared or single rooms depending on your preferences and budget.
All IELS teachers are CELTA or TEFL qualified and benefit from continuous training to develop their teaching skills. With more than 40 years of experience in teaching English as a foreign language, the school guarantees high-quality supervision adapted to the needs of each student.

Before your arrival at IELS, you will receive an online placement test to assess your level. An online interview will also be organized in order to place you in the class best suited to your actual written and spoken level. Levels are aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1).
Students from outside the European Union must have appropriate travel and medical insurance, which will be required in particular to apply for a visa. Students who are citizens of a European Union country may benefit from the European Health Insurance Card for their stay. Students are free to take out the insurance of their choice. If needed, it is also possible to take out Guard.me international insurance, available from 1 week to 12 months of coverage when registering for the language stay.
Students are periodically tested to measure their progress. At each level advancement, students are required to change class. At the end of the stay, a certificate will be issued indicating the number of lessons attended and the level achieved.
